Celestial Countdown
Counting down to the blessed month
Until the expected first day of fasting
Expected first day of fasting:
Counting down to midnight at the start of that day in your own time zone. The first night of Ramadan, with the first Taraweeh prayer, begins at sunset the evening before. The start depends on the sighting of the crescent moon and may differ by a day between countries and communities.
Ramadan 1448 AH
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027. Because the Islamic day begins at sunset, the first night of Ramadan comes first: the evening of Sunday, 7 February 2027, when the first Taraweeh prayer is held.
The month lasts 29 or 30 days, so Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday, 9 March 2027 or Wednesday, 10 March 2027. These are expected dates, not announcements. Many communities confirm the start only after the crescent moon is sighted, so follow your local mosque or national authority.
The Night of Decree
Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree, is the night on which the Qur’an was first sent down. A whole surah of the Qur’an, Surah al-Qadr (97), is named after it and describes its virtue.
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”
Its exact date is not fixed. The Prophet ﷺ instructed Muslims to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. In 2027, the last ten nights are expected to begin at sunset on Saturday, 27 February 2027. The estimated odd nights are:
| Night | Begins at sunset on | Followed by fasting day |
|---|---|---|
| 21st night | 21 Ramadan 1448 | |
| 23rd night | 23 Ramadan 1448 | |
| 25th night | 25 Ramadan 1448 | |
| 27th night | 27 Ramadan 1448 | |
| 29th night | 29 Ramadan 1448 |
None of these dates is confirmed as Laylat al-Qadr. Its exact night is not known. The Prophet ﷺ told believers to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017 (opens in a new tab)) and, in another narration, throughout the last ten nights (Sahih al-Bukhari 2020 (opens in a new tab)). Some Companions held that it is the 27th night (Sahih Muslim 762a (opens in a new tab)), but that view does not make the 27th night certain.
The dates above assume Ramadan 2027 begins on Monday, 8 February 2027. If your community begins a day later, every night moves one day later.
The surest way to reach Laylat al-Qadr is to seek it on every one of the last ten nights, as the Prophet ﷺ did when he increased his worship in those nights (Sahih al-Bukhari 2024 (opens in a new tab)).

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam), as shown on Sunnah.com
Each Islamic month begins with the new crescent moon. Twelve lunar months last about 354 days, so Ramadan arrives about 11 days earlier each year.
The Prophet ﷺ said to begin and end the fast on seeing the crescent, and to complete thirty days if it cannot be seen (Sahih al-Bukhari 1909 (opens in a new tab)). Some communities rely on a local sighting, some follow another country’s announcement, and some use astronomical calculation. Ramadan can therefore begin on different days in different places.
The dates on this site are expected dates based on a published calendar and astronomical data. They become confirmed only when your local authority announces them. When that happens, follow the announcement.
Laylat al-Qadr is sought in the last ten nights, especially the odd nights. No single night is guaranteed, so this site never presents one date as the Night of Decree.

No. The 27th night is one of the odd nights in which it is sought, and some Companions held it to be the 27th, but no night is guaranteed. Seek it throughout the last ten nights.
Communities follow different methods: a local sighting of the crescent, an announcement from another country, or astronomical calculation. The crescent may also be visible in one region but not in another on the same evening.
